Master of Philosophy
The M.PHILL is awarded to a candidate who, as per these regulations, has submitted a thesis on the basis of original and independent research that makes a contribution to the advancement of knowledge, which is approved by duly constituted examiners as required.

Persons having passed Post Graduate Degree in the appropriate field with at least 55 % marks of having grade equivalent there to awarded by a University established by Act.

Relaxation of 5% for students belonging to SC/ST/OBC/PH communities.

An eligible candidate shall apply in the prescribed form on payment of requisite fees. Prescribed form shall also be available on the University information centers.

The form shall be available at the reception counter of University campus on every working day between 10 AM to 5 PM.

Entrance examination will be conducted quarterly in a year (in the month of March, June, September and December in every year.) Entrance test will include General Aptitude Test and Subject Specific Test. There will be no entrance test for NET/SET/GATE/JRF/GPAT qualified. Entrance test shall be followed by an interview organized by the University. Candidates are expected to discuss their research interests/area at the time of interview and a fixed number of candidates will be admitted to M.PHILL. Program.

Candidates selected may submit the requisite fee for M.PHILL. Program within 15 days from the date of declaration of result of entrances test and interview.

The date of provisional admission shall be the date of registration.

If the candidate desires, he/she can partially modify the title and the proposed plan of the research, RDC shall approve such changes on the recommendation of the guide.

Course work
After the admission, each student will undertake coursework for a minimum period of one semester. The course work shall include research methodology and reviewing of published work in area of research AND EXAMINATION.. Evaluation will be done by RDC. RDC will decide the minimum qualifying requirement for allowing a student to proceed further with the writing of thesis.

After course work, candidate shall be required to submit the synopsis and make a presentation before a RDC. The presentation will be arranged by the RDC on a date suggested by the Research Guide. In case of any dispute/problem, RDC shall take appropriate steps. This presentation shall be arranged within one month of synopsis submission.

All Professors, Associate Professors and Assistant Professors holding a Doctorate Degree with minimum two year teaching experience are eligible to be considered as Guides with the approval of RDC. In exception cases, Vice-Chancellor can relax the condition of experience.

The guide and the Co-guide(s) should not be a relative of the candidate.

On the recommendations of the Guide(s). the University may allow the Research work for the M.PHILL. degree to be partially or wholly carried out at another organization duly approved for the purpose by the University for the students concerned.

The Research Degrees Committee (RDC) shall evaluate the progress of M.PHILL. work of the student and upon their satisfaction shall recommend continuation of his work. If RDC is not satisfied with the progress of research work may recommend termination of registration to the Board of Studies.


Every candidate shall submit to the University, through the Guide/Convener of the Doctoral Committee wherever pertinent, a Synopsis (6 copies) of the proposed thesis together with certificate of the Doctoral Committee and state the title of the thesis, to be presented in the prescribed application form along with fee. The synopsis shall not exceed 20 typewritten or printed pages (one side only of A4 size.) Thesis submission is to be done after clearance in the Doctoral committee and permitted in the Vice Chancellor.
